Tern is a browser extension for trading on axiom.trade from your own Solana wallet. This page sets out what leaves your browser, where it goes, why, and how long it's kept.
- No third-party analytics, no ads, no telemetry. The only thing we keep is the list of wallet addresses that opened Tern (below). We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.
- Your private keys and passphrase are never sent to us or anyone else. They're stored only in your browser, encrypted with your passphrase (Argon2id and AES-GCM).
- The few things that do reach Tern's servers are listed below, with how long they're kept.
What stays in your browser
Your wallets (encrypted), settings, limit orders and the profit and loss of your trades are stored in Chrome on your computer. Removing Tern from Chrome deletes them, so keep a backup of your private keys.
What Tern's servers receive
Tern's servers run on Cloudflare at api.tradetern.xyz and friends.tradetern.xyz.
Your fee rate
When you open Tern and every 2 minutes while you trade, Tern asks api.tradetern.xyz for your wallet's fee rate. The request contains your wallet's public address. We don't record these requests, with one exception: the first time a wallet asks, we keep its public address and the date, so we can see how many wallets use Tern and offer lower rates to wallets close to Tern. We never sell or share this list. We only keep a rate for a wallet when we set one ourselves, for example a lower rate for an affiliate's traders.
Coin launches
When you launch a coin, its picture, name, symbol, description and links go to api.tradetern.xyz, which puts them on IPFS through Pinata. IPFS is public, and what's put there can't reliably be taken back. The launching wallet signs the upload, and we count uploads per wallet per day to stop abuse; the count is deleted after 2 days.
Friends (optional)
If you use Friends, friends.tradetern.xyz stores your Friends identity (a key made in your browser), the name you choose, your friend code, your friends and friend requests, and when you were last online.
Messages, and the coin you're viewing, are encrypted in your browser for each friend before they're sent. The server keeps the last 200 messages of each conversation and the latest coin update for each friend, encrypted, and can't read them. It does see who you're friends with, when you're online, and when messages are sent and how long they are. You can stop sharing it by switching off "Show friends the coin you're on" in the Friends box.
Holders rooms (optional)
A holders room is a voice chat for people who hold the coin. To join one, Tern signs a one-time message with your wallet in your browser (it proves you own the wallet and moves nothing) and sends friends.tradetern.xyz the wallet's public address and its token account, so the server can check on chain that you hold the coin. Others in the room see your Friends name and a bag size (shrimp, fish or whale), never your wallet. The server passes each call's setup between the people in the room and keeps none of it after you leave.
Your voice goes straight from your browser to theirs. It isn't recorded and never reaches our servers. As with any voice call, the people you connect with, and the STUN servers that help set up the call (run by Cloudflare and Google), see your IP address. Tern uses your microphone only while you're in a room; Mute silences it and Leave turns it off.
Your encrypted backup
Tern backs up your settings, wallet names, which wallets you trade with, your profit and loss, your Friends name and your sharing choice, so they come back when you import your main wallet on another computer. They're encrypted in your browser with a key made from your main wallet's private key, and stored on friends.tradetern.xyz under an ID made from that key one way. We can't read the backup or tell which wallet it belongs to. Other wallets' keys are never in it, even encrypted.
Your dashboard (tradetern.xyz/me)
The dashboard shows your trading stats from Tern's journal. When you connect it (you approve this in Tern's own window), Tern hands the page in your browser the journal, your affiliate code and Friends: who your friends are, whether they're online, the coin they're on, requests, the weekly leaderboard and your chats, which Tern decrypts first. The page can also add friends, answer requests and send messages, which Tern encrypts before they leave your browser. The page doesn't send any of it to our servers. You can disconnect on the page or in Tern's popup.
Affiliates and the leaderboard
An affiliate's code, payout wallet and share are stored on api.tradetern.xyz so Tern can pay them inside each trade, and so is the code of the affiliate who brought them in, who's paid a smaller share of the same fees. A code you make yourself in Tern is signed by your own wallet, which is the only wallet it can pay, and its recruiter is the code that wallet joined. Each code's page (tradetern.xyz/me, or api.tradetern.xyz/affiliate/CODE) shows the codes it brought in and what it earned from them each month. The leaderboard at tradetern.xyz/leaderboard is public: it shows each affiliate code with the SOL it earned from Tern trades each month, how many different wallets traded on it and the SOL they traded, counted from public Solana transactions. To count different traders, the leaderboard keeps the first 8 characters of each trading wallet's address; it never shows them, or traders' wallets.
Limits against abuse
Sign-ins, backups and uploads are limited per IP address by Cloudflare's rate limiting, which uses your IP address for about a minute. We don't store IP addresses.
Cloudflare
Cloudflare runs these servers and handles connection data such as IP addresses to deliver requests, under its own privacy policy.
What other services receive
To trade, Tern connects from your browser straight to these services. Like for any Solana wallet, they see your IP address, your wallet addresses and the transactions they handle:
- Solana RPC (PublicNode, or the RPC you set): balances, prices and sending transactions
- Helius Sender and Jito: sending transactions quickly
- Jupiter: quotes and swaps for coins that trade outside pump.fun
- DexScreener: coin prices and details
Solana transactions are public, including Tern's fee, which is paid in the same transaction as each trade.
Tern's panel runs only on axiom.trade. It reads the coin you're viewing from the page so it can trade it, and sends nothing about Axiom to us, apart from the encrypted coin updates to your friends described above. Tern also runs on tradetern.xyz/me, only to answer your dashboard once you've connected it.
Your choices
- Friends is optional. If you don't use it, nothing about you is stored there.
- To delete your Friends account (with its friend links and messages), email tradetern@gmail.com with your friend code.
- To delete your encrypted backup, email tradetern@gmail.com. Because we can't tell whose backup is whose, we'll help you find yours from Tern.
- Removing Tern from Chrome deletes everything it stored in your browser.
Other things to know
- Tern is for people 18 and over.
- Tern's use of this data follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
- If this policy changes, the new version goes on this page with a new date, and we post about it in Tern's Discord.
